About Us

Pam Birdsall and Tim Worthington

We just love what we do!

After almost 40 years as studio potters, we can honestly say we still really enjoy working with clay each day.

In 1977, as young Nova Scotia College of Art and Design  graduates, we started Birdsall-Worthington Pottery Ltd.pottery shop We found the perfect building and learned a lot about renovating in those early years! We feel blessed to work and live in the beautiful seaside town of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia.

We are well known for creating custom made commemorative plates for births, weddings, anniversaries and far more. We make each piece entirely by hand in the centuries old slip decorating process, using a beautiful earthenware clay that we buy directly from a Nova Scotia clay deposit.

Our loyal customers often re-order plates for their friends’ and family’s special occasions.  We are regularly making second generation children’s plates.  People came to our shop on their honeymoon and commissioned a wedding plate.  We then made children’s plates for the birth of their kids.  Years later they ordered wedding plates for those kids and are now ordering the first and sometimes the second grandchild plate.

The finished platepainting letters on a plateWith more and more mass-produced consumer gifts, the recipients of our pottery have been touched by the time, effort and expertise that is required for each piece, knowing it was made just for them.

As studio potters, we have come to see this creative process as the greatest metaphor for life.  We believe that a creative life can be a “spiritual practice”.

We look forward to creating something special for you !
